Lacuna uses specially built sensors to transmit data via satellites from almost anywhere in the world. In the past where you would have to travel to a remote destination to gather data from there, you van now place an individual battery powered sensor to gather practically real time data. In fact, the battery power is so good that these seniors could live for up to two years on AA batteries alone. In practice better batteries are used and these sensors will live for up to ten years.
